Rohan Nicol is a craftsman, designer, academic and curator who is interested in exploring and articulating how craft and design both influence and reflect human patterns of behaviour.

Of particular note is Nicol’s ongoing international research project, Domestic Renewal (DomRen). Engaged with contextualising objects within the socio-cultural, political, technological and economic settings in which they are both created and consumed, DomRen invites artists and designers to think more deeply about their practices, and what their respective disciplines can “bring to a table that is already full”.

Rohan Nicol has won multiple awards for his innovative and critical approach to design, including the prestigious Bombay Sapphire Design Award for his Peppered Sunlight light. Nicol is currently head of the Gold and Silver Workshop at the Australian National University School of Art, and his work is held in public and private collections including the Powerhouse Museum and the National Gallery of Australia.
