The New Acton precinct in Canberra’s CBD is particularly notable for its inventive design, mixed use planning and sense of community.
A mixed use precinct, comprising of restored heritage-listed buildings, community gardens, large apartment complexes, and a vibrant blend of commercial businesses and private dwellings, New Acton is a unique urban tapestry and example of excellent contemporary urban planning and design.
Fender Katsalidis Architects and Oculus have won numerous urban design awards for their work on the precinct, including the Australian Award for Urban Design. Fender Katsalidis also won the Walter Burley Griffin Award for urban design at the 2015 National Architecture Awards.
