An old coat rescued. Sir Edmund Barton revealed
Clothes are political documents. They express national, cultural, spiritual, economic and ideological identity. This exhibition is about a ceremonial uniform worn by Sir Edmund Barton. He was Australia’s first prime minister and a member of the Privy Council of the United Kingdom. Dressed in this uniform, Sir Edmund stood at the epicentre of the affairs of Empire. But what does the uniform tell us about him? And what does it say about our nation today? Come with us as we take a closer look at what it means to dress to impress.
Discover Barton’s coatee, an exciting digital interactive, videos and school activities.
Exhibition cost: $2 adults, $1 children and concessions, $5 family
Opening hours: Open daily 9.00 am – 5.00 pm (closed Christmas Day)
