In 2016, DESIGN Canberra is will be accepting expressions of interest for:

 

Living Artist open studios, open to Canberra-region artists, designers and industry, allowing creatives to connect directly with the public.

Capital of Culture tours directed by designers, architects, artists, historians, curators and other insiders who want to engage with the public and help participants discover a new side to our designed city.

What is Living Artist Open Studios?

Living Artist is a unique opportunity for participants to open their organisations and studios to the public. These events are an opportunity to build relationships with customers and clients, as well as connecting with new audiences. Event hosts will have the chance to talk about their creative process and to promote and sell their products.

This event gives audiences an opportunity to see ‘behind-the-scenes’ creative processes and provides designers, artists and organisations with a chance to support, contribute and participate in DESIGN Canberra.

 

Can I sell my work at my Living Artist event?

Yes.

 

Does DESIGN Canberra festival take a commission from my sales?

No.

What is Capital of CULTURE Tours?

Capital of CULTURE is a unique opportunity to host a tour of craft, design, art and architectural landmarks. These tours are directed by designers, architects, artists, historians, curators and other insiders who want to engage with the public and help participants discover a new side to our designed city. Tours could be by bus, bike, walking or jogging.

Capital of CULTURE gives audiences an opportunity experience design-insider informational tours and provides the sector with a chance to support and contribute to the Canberra community by exposing new audiences to design. Capital of CULTURE tours are ideally free and open to the public, however, places will be limited with capacity decided in consultation with tour guides.

 

Who manages the booking process?

Capital of CULTURE Tour booking is the responsibility of the event organiser. If you’re looking for ways to streamline the booking process, you might like to look at Eventbrite or Try Booking which are both free to use for events that are free to the public.

 

Can I charge for my tour?

DESIGN Canberra seeks to make as much of its program free as possible. This is to reduce financial barriers to audience participation. However, event organisers are able to charge and collect an attendance fee. If you would like to do this, you must inform DESIGN Canberra.

DESIGN Canberra will not collect a commission from any sales made.

DESIGN Canberra follows a tiered fee system to try to reduce financial barriers to participation.

All rates listed above are inclusive of GST.

Why do I have to pay to participate?

DESIGN Canberra festival is run by non-for-profit organisation, Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre. Craft ACT collects fees from participants to cover some of the costs associated with running DESIGN Canberra, such as festival administration and communications and marketing.

 

What’s the timeline? When will I hear back?

I just want to display my designs, is there some where I can do that?

Unfortunately, there are no Expression of Interest opportunities to exhibit or display your design work as part of DESIGN Canberra.
