Graphic Interventions Competition

Competition opens late July 2018.

DESIGN Canberra is delighted to announce in 2018 the festival will run a Graphic Interventions Competition with funding from the City Renewal Authority.

Established or emerging designers and artists living in the Canberra region are invited to submit geometry-inspired designs to activate the city centre. The DESIGN Canberra 2018 Graphic interventions project aims to activate and beautify the city centre for the duration of the festival from 5-25 November 2018.

The graphic intervention program will build on the popularity of DESIGN Canberra’s 2017 collaboration with local artist Jodie Cunningham in Civic Square. Based on this successful pilot, we will expand the interventions throughout the city to include two new ground artworks and 10 new window displays.

This project will forge collaborations with city businesses, create opportunities for community participation, bring vitality to the city centre and provide employment opportunities for local artists and designers. A selection panel of local designers and business owners will select the 12 winning designs.

Once installed, the public will be invited to vote on their favourite installation, to build engagement and promote the designs and the festival and to support local businesses.

Artists whose work is selected to feature as a graphic intervention in DESIGN Canberra 2018 will receive payment of: $500 (ground installation); and $200 (window installation). A range of prizes from festival partners will be awarded to selected artists and the winner of the People’s Choice prize.

The Graphic Interventions Competition will open on 10 July 2018.
