Don’t miss out on Fusion: the art of eating

Monday, 10 November 2023

Tickets are now available online for Fusion: the art of eating, the official launch of DESIGN Canberra and Craft ACT: Craft + Design Centre’s annual fundraising event.

Held in the historic Kings Hall at the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House on Wednesday 19 November, Fusion pairs innovative local designers with talented chefs that results in a fully designed taste experience. Craft ACT Executive Director and Design Canberra Creative Director Avi Amesbury says:

Fusion was developed to showcase the diverse talents of Canberra’s local designers whilst also bringing attention to the important part design plays in our lives, and what better way to show this than through food?”

Now in its second year after a hugely successful debut in 2013 at New Acton’s Nishi Building, Fusion will feature designers Nellie Peoples + Sam Tomkins; Margaret Brown; Annette Blair; Rebecca Dowling; Cathy Franzi + Chris Harford; Joanne Searle and Gilbert Riedelbauch who are teaming up with Chefs Diego Aratas (Močan & Green Grout); Sebastien Lutaud (Restaurant Associates); Bernd Brademann (A. Baker); Sean McConnell (Monster Kitchen and Bar); Eric Manard (Loading Zone) and Chris Dennis (Two Before Ten) to present seven incredible fusions of fine food and cutting edge design.

Ms Amesbury says “We have a fantastic line-up of designers involved this year, from recently graduated and emerging future stars, to established craft and design practitioners with national and international reputations. As with last year, it’s a fantastic experience to pair these artists with some of Canberra’s most talented chefs and see, and taste, the results.”

Whilst restaurants Močan & Green Grout and Two Before Ten will be familiar to those who attended Fusion last year, Craft ACT is pleased to welcome A. Baker, Monster Kitchen and Bar, Loading Zone and Restaurant Associates on board this year. In particularly exciting news, event sponsor Restaurant Associates will be flying the General Manager of Culinary Services, Chef Sebastien Lutaud, into Canberra from Sydney specially for the event. With many years of experience under his belt, Lutaud has worked both in Australia and overseas, including Michelin starred restaurants in France and the UK.

ABC 666’s Andrea Ho will be the Master of Ceremonies on the night, and there will also be live music from the Miroslav Bukoski trio, featuring the award winning jazz trumpeter, Miroslav Bukoski himself. Other entertainment includes a silent auction, where guests have the opportunity to acquire pieces by nationally recognised Canberra artists, including Sharon Peoples and Kirstie Rea; a raffle featuring local product and produce, and a door prize by Australian silversmith Oliver Smith. Each guest will also receive a limited edition gift at the end of the evening.

Tickets are $150 each and available online. Only a limited number of tickets are available so book now to avoid missing out!

Fusion: the art of eating 2014 is proudly presented by Craft ACT and DESIGN Canberra, and sponsored by the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House and Restaurant Associates.
