James Carpenter: Light in the Public Realm

James Carpenter is an internationally renowned architect/artist who has worked at the intersection of architecture, art, and design for nearly 50 years. He graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in sculpture in 1972. He established James Carpenter Design Associates, New York, in 1979 and has worked on many major international projects including Israel Museum in Jerusalem, Fulton Street Station New York, Seven World Trade Centre New York and the German Foreign Ministry in Berlin.

James has been awarded numerous lifetime achievements and international accolades for his work and impact in the field of architecture, lighting and sculpture.

This is James Carpenters’ first visit to Canberra and has been made possible by the generous support of the Australian National University School of Art and Design.
