Open Studio: Judy Witherdin Glass
Judy Witherden’s practice is fused and slumped glass using the warm glass method, together with lampworked beads. She has been involved with warm glass for 35 years studying firstly with Warren Langley and later with Kirstie Rea at ANU. She has had exhibitions in both Sydney and Canberra – most recently Strathnairn.
Every year for the past 17 years she has held a Christmas exhibition at her private studio gallery in Kaleen. Judy has extended her practice to use the fused glass method for incorporating in mosaics such as garden seats and large sculptural pieces again for the garden. These pieces are all completed using her own hand made glass mosaic tiles.
This year Judy will also be holding an Open Garden to raise funds for Motor Neurone Disease with coffee and cake. The garden is 2000 sq. meters and is a mini sculpture garden together with the gallery at the front. Judy’s new work is a combination of glass and corten steel sculptures.
