Knot an Ordinary Building
Building Tours: National Museum of Australia
The design of the National Museum was always intended to challenge visitors’ expectations. Avoiding traditional museum interpretations, the building is itself an exhibit.Wrapped around the tip of Lake Burley Griffin, the Museum is an imaginative and provocative work of contemporary architecture. Its shapes, colours and textures are unlike anything previously seen in Canberra – Australia’s purpose built, manicured capital city with its imposing white and grey public buildings arranged to broadly reflect Walter Burley Griffin’s grand masterplan devised for the city in 1911.
Join us to hear why the building looks the way it does as we unravel the symbolic significance of the building and the landscape.
Bookings essential. Please wear appropriate footwear for walking outside.
