A staircase from here to where?

The concept for this piece arose from a particular interest in the tree that snugly frames the work itself. Significantly, the negative space caused by tree’s bifurcated trunk provoked contemplation into notions of portals and the ‘in between’. The helical staircase represents a journey of transformation, whereby the combined gestures of ascension and circular movement are symbolic. Furthermore, the staircase leads into a reflection, thus perplexing the intent of destination.
