In conversation with Yena Young, partner and lead designer of Plastique Fantastique. A discussion around the language and myriad formal opportunities of pneumatic architecture. The conversation will be led by Ann Cleary – architect and Senior Lecturer in Architecture at the University of Canberra’s Faculty of Arts and Design.

Yena Young is an architect and designer with acclaimed Berlin-based design team, Plastique Fantastique. Plastique Fantastique is a platform for temporary architecture which samples the performative possibilities of urban environments. Established in Berlin in 1999, Plastique Fantastique has been influenced by the unique circumstances that made the city a laboratory for temporary spaces, and has specialised in creating pneumatic installations as alternative, adaptable, low energy spaces for temporary and ephemeral activities.

Ann Cleary FRAIA is an architect and Senior Lecturer in Architecture at the University of Canberra’s Faculty of Arts and Design. Ann’s research interests are focused on architecture as urban artefact and temporal catalyst to understand enduring architectural value, spatial resonance and public realm cultural interface, engaging with Canberra as a design laboratory. Her experience in architecture and urban design encompasses twenty five years across a range of architectural projects, including a period working in Sweden and the US, with AKOS Arkitektkontor in Göteborg and Mitchell/Giurgola in New York. Her work with MGT Architects in Australia included many years on the Parliament House project as well as large scale project and competition work in Singapore.  Ann cofounded design group Cadence and established the studio practice a r k k u: architecture and urban design.
