Open Day: Canberra Glassworks

Open Day

Gain insight into how this contemporary glassmaker approaches functional design, tableware, and
objects of use at the Canberra Glassworks with commentated Hotshop sessions from 11am and 2pm
on Saturday the 12th of November.

Designed and handcrafted by Katie-Ann Houghton, KAH challenges the culture of mass consumption
by creating objects with innovative design and handmade qualities. Katie’s design philosophy is based
on the idea that the objects we engage with every day should engage our senses and bring us joy
when we use them.

With designs that consider functionality and practicality, KAH seeks to change standard expectations of
tableware, and have us view each piece as both an instance of contemporary design and as an object
of use.

Katie-Ann Houghton is an Artist, Designer and Maker based in Sydney Australia. Her contemporary
works are inspired by early 20th Century Design and embody a decades long passion for traditional
Venetian glassmaking techniques.
