Open Studio: Carol Cooke and Naomi Taylor Royds

‘Anything But Zen’ artist studio is a combined studio and garden that was designed to highlight works of art for home and garden. This working studio is used for projects such as mosaics, soldering and general construction. Recently refurbished, it is now available to showcase completed works from the last year. Carol has been working on hanging bird cages without doors, mosaics and experimenting with a slate as a medium to showcase textiles. The garden is divided into sections (dry creek bed, fire pit, meditation garden, succulent garden and a secret garden) specifically to display works of art, including mosaics, bird cages and crystal pagodas. The studio has been lined with ply to allow display of hanging works designed for inside.

Naomi Taylor Royds completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours) at The School of Art and Design, ANU, Canberra, 2017, majoring in sculpture. Taylor Royds is a multi-disciplinary artist incorporating sculpture, print, drawing, collage and photo into her art work and is inspired by themes of memory, identity and domestic landscape.

On display in this open studio will be:

  • Art on slate, textile vases, hanging works (stitch in a paper and fabric) glass/crystal
  • Pagodas, wire bird cages without doors and textile embellished brooches.
