Open studio: Sarah Humphery
Sarah is an emerging ceramicist producing thoughtful handmade and slow made functional pieces to be appreciated and used in everyday life. Her practice has a strong focus on continuous professional development and learning; clay is such a complex and multifaceted medium and there is always more to learn. Sarah creates pieces using a range of techniques, such as hand building, slab rolling, wheel throwing, mould making and slip casting. She has recently moved into a studio space at Strathnarain Arts Association since moving to Canberra from Sydney in March, where she was a studio member at Claypool.
Sarah’s Open Studio will be an opportunity for visitors to see her work in the flesh and purchase pieces at a discounted price. The studio space is located in the serene outskirts of Canberra and is full of natural light and hanging plants, it is a welcoming creative environment for visitors to experience. Sarah will also have a wheel setup with pre prepared clay, aprons and tools, as a ‘give it a go’ wheel throwing experience.
