Open Studio: The Hayshed (Kirstie Rea and Lucy Palmer)
Kirstie Rea is an independent studio artist creating from her glass studio in the leafy suburb of Pialligo. The studio is located within The Hayshed complex that has housed artists since the 1970s. Kirstie established the space 32 years ago and has over the years shared the space with various artists.
The studio is set up as a glass kiln forming and cold working space with generous room to design and layout works in progress. It’s rustic nature and semi-rural location is a perfect fit for Kirstie’s work.
Kirstie has an established practice that includes the ongoing creation of new work alongside teaching contemporary glass making processes, mentoring, undertaking public and private commissions and working on school projects. She exhibits her work nationally and internationally in solo and selected group exhibitions.
Kirstie is a Craft ACT accredited professional member, an Honorary Lifetime member of Ausglass and keen supporter of Canberra Glassworks.
Visitors will be welcomed to the studio and have the opportunity to walk through the space, view multiple making processes, materials, prototypes and finished artworks.
Open studio is an opportunity for Kirstie to engage with the wider community about all aspects of her art practice including enquiries for private commissions both small and large, teaching and mentoring.
A range of artworks will be available for purchase from hand crafted small glass sheds, glasswork from previous series and current works including her ‘garden rake’ series. Refreshments will be available throughout the day.
