Robert Boynes is a consummate master of both technique and observation, focusing on the anonymity of contemporary social interaction. Many of the new works in this exhibition were inspired by a recent trip to Italy, the richness of the old masterworks there, and the tragedy of the refugee crisis, with depictions of “people (and their reflections) trudging through water and enduring powerful forces beyond their control”. Robert was Head of Painting at the Canberra School of Art for 27 years and has an extensive exhibition history with over 60 solo exhibitions. His work is represented in the National Gallery of Australia as well as all Australian state galleries, Parliament House, Artbank and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago.
