found and carved timber, stain, woodchip, charcoal
Responding to the destruction of the Black Summer with hope, this piece serves as a symbol of natures’ durability and its fragility. This stump of a burnt-out tree has been implanted into the urban space and revivified; an emissary of our surrounding bushlands. Its black surfaces mark us, and its regrowth continues over the life of the work, reminding us of the potential, and the impetus for systemic and personal transformation.
