Spatial Interval: Opening event

Opening event

Spatial Interval is an Exhibition and Book launch of architectural studio project proposals for the Shine Dome precinct by University of Canberra Master of Architecture students In association with the Academy of Science. The Studio proposals explore possibilities for additional public forum spaces and a fellows research archive sited in relation to architect Roy Grounds’ original 1959 AIA Sulman Awarded Dome. The projects pursue concepts of geometric structuralism, resonant space, articulated light, and material presence. The project includes interpretive and analytical studies of the spatial principles underpinning the modernist architectural icon as well as the propositional studio designs in drawings and models. Written reflections include Spatial Interval by Studio Convener Ann Cleary; Sounding the Shine Dome by Chris Latham, Canberra International Music Festival Director undertaken in collaboration with the Australian Institute of Architects and the University of Canberra Architecture Program; and a chapter specially written by architect and daughter of Roy Grounds, Victoria Grounds, reflecting on her father’s architectural legacy in the design and making of the Shine Dome and its contribution to Canberra.

Studio project contributors include Mel Schonfeld, Cassandra Cutler, Tim Dyer, William Headland, Savita Goankar, Cate English, Adam Hancock, Alissa Nolan, Chao Chen, Dragomir Mladenovic, Emilia Markovic, Kathryn Andrew, Marzieh Soleimani, Pearce Lardner, Roger Sutcliffe, Tony Staltari, Valentina Deeble, Winnie Wong, Melanie Vella.
