Grace Turtle has responded to an open letter by Prof. Victor Magolin and Prof. Ezio Manzini urging designers to take action in response to the crisis that democracy is currently undergoing. The Citizenry Seat encourages the public to take a seat, and engage in participatory play and build on the conversation started by Jane Jacobs on citizen-led and distributed governance, “cities have the capability of providing something for everybody, only because, and only when, they are created by everybody”. In today’s ever-changing social, cultural, economic and political landscape the call for designers to enable collaborative authoring and distributed governance through their practices has never been so great.
