Understanding the city through placemaking

Walking tour & Workshop

Join Obelia Tait and Aliza Levy on a tour of civic square and the city centre viewed through a placemaking lens. Placemaking has been described as “Strengthening the connection between people and the places they share, placemaking refers to a collaborative process by which we can shape our public realm.” As elements of Canberra city have moved from the masterplan toward a placemaking models, it’s important to understand exactly what that means. The walking tour will culminate in a workshop where the space will be reimagined with your ideas as to what constitutes a truly human, activated central hub of the city.

Selected Civic Square festival programs have been made possible with support from the ACT Government under the City Renewal Authority’s City Grants program.

DESIGN Canberra acknowledges the Ngunnawal people as the traditional custodians of the ACT and surrounding areas. We honour and respect their ongoing cultural and spiritual connections to this country and the contribution they make to the life of this city and this region. We aim to respect cultural heritage, customs and beliefs of all Indigenous people.
