Weaving: Past Present Future with Elisa Jane Carmichael
Ainslie and Gorman Arts Centres is proud to present a special weaving workshop by Alice Springs-based textiles artist, Elisa Jane Carmichael.
Elisa Jane Carmichael belongs to the Quandamooka people of Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia. Elisa is very passionate about nurturing and preserving her strong connection to the sand and sea, Yoolooburrabee. Her practice visually explores the beauty of nature and surrounding environment, drawing inspiration from her cultural identity and heritage.
Her practice traverses across a range of mediums which has seen her creative works and collaborations exhibited nationally in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia and internationally in the UK, Europe, USA, Japan and India. Her work has been published in national and international publications, and she has facilitated arts workshops globally.
During her visit to Canberra to participate in the Ainslie and Gorman Arts Centre’s Indigenous Residency for 2017, Elisa will develop her arts practice, engage with local community and work with Project O for Big hART. This public workshop is an opportunity to engage with an internationally recognised artist in a personalised setting.
