DIGITAL / MATERIAL : A conversation on contemporary design & making | 17 nov

Thursday, 17 November 2023 @ 6pm – 8pm | Australian Centre on China in the World | Building 188 Fellows Road, ANU, Canberra

Contemporary culture is being rapidly transformed by the digital – and design is no exception. But despite the hype, the digital is always intertwined with our material world. Digital techniques promise a new mastery of the physical, but matter has a way of speaking back. This event draws out the dialogue of the digital and the material, with practitioners from art, architecture, jewellery, print design and ceramics. Each will offer a unique perspective on how digital and material processes come together in their practice. They apply robotics, digital fabrication, generative computation and system design, but their work is grounded in the specificities and poetics of physical materials, processes, and a deep sense of craft and making.

ANU Design invites you to join panel chair Giovanna Massoni, and our panel members Iain Maxwell (Supermanouvre), Cinnamon Lee, Lucy Irvine, Kate Sweetapple & Jacquie Lorber-Kasunic, and Ben Landau (Alterfact) for an inspiring showcase and lively conversation about the digital and the material in contemporary design and making.
