GRAFFITI TOUR OF BELCONNEN | 19 NOV
Saturday, 19 November 2023 @ 4 – 6PM | Kaleen & Belconnen
Street Art is perhaps the most popularly recognised artform of the 21st century and Canberra is replete with great graphic artists. There are public locations all over Canberra where they are encouraged to ply their practice, under bridges and along the concrete walls of drains.
The ACT Government has created these spaces for murals in public locations because they bring colour, tell stories and inspire the community to be proud about the area they live in.
For DESIGN Canberra, which this year has a focus on urban activation and graphic design, premiere Canberra artist Byrd will lead a bike-riding tour of four legal graffiti sites around the Belconnen area.
The tour begins at Site number 25 in Kaleen, at the Maribyrnong Avenue Underpass, between Ashburton Circuit and Moruya Circuit at 4pm, and goes through Kaleen to finish at sites 18 and 19 at the Ginninderra Drive Bridge at Belconnen. Bring your own Bike and helmet, sunscreen and water for the ride. And afterwards, head to La De Da Bar in Belconnen to try your own graphic design as part of a paste-up being held by The Design Kids, a group of University of Canberra graphic design graduates.
