Open Studios offer you a chance to see behind the scenes in the studio of a member design artist of Craft ACT: Craft + Design Centre.

‘Six Wiluna’ is a shared workshop, established in 2014 by Elliot Bastianon, which occupies an early building that originally housed one of Canberra’s first joiner’s workshops.

The space accommodates five people—all working in the field of furniture design—each of whom have access to a comprehensive suite of wood working machinery. The workshop can be described as having a punk element to it; a do-it-yourself aesthetic where a collective of craftspeople, with limited means, come together to produce work; a place where the collective individual engagement and participation keeps the facilities running, and it does so without any real hierarchical structure.

Shared workshops aren’t a new idea, they are simply things that place the value on what’s already there.
