Spectra | CIT Fashion design showcase | 20 oct – 20 nov

Thursday, 20 October 2023 @ Tue to Fri 10am-5:30pm, Sat & Sun: 9.30am – 3.30pm | Cardif Collective | Cusack Centre, 27 Eyre St., Kingston (Green Square)

The CIT FASHFEST Showcase will be again on display at CARDIF Collective.

Each show at FASHFEST followed a different theme. The theme for the CIT Showcase was SPECTRA. SPECTRA, a band of colour, a visual display, encouraged guests to explore where they sit on the fashion spectrum. This show was for those looking to make a statement and express themselves in true colour. SPECTRA is about a design process that explored the personification of human characteristics through research and experimentation.

The brief for students was to design, pattern make and produce 2 white shirts – one for men, one for women – following the SPECTRA theme. Their design challenge was to take 3 core elements of a shirt and experiment by manipulating and extending their proportion, placement and function.

Students were encouraged to be highly experimental or promotional in their designing but maintain the essence of the shirt.

CARDIF Collective, a hub of fashion design, is exhibiting pieces from some of the collections launched by well-known local labels at FASHFEST 2016. The innovative collection of CIT students will be on display as will fashion by Zilpah tart, VFP, Hunter and locally designed shoes by fletcherLovell. CARDIF Collective will also showcase new designs by Elle Hopwood and Rasa Mauragis, also seen on the catwalk at FASHFEST.

CARDIF Collective supports local and regional designers and makers, and retails fashion, jewellery, hats and other accessories. It also showcases homewares by local designers. CARDIF Collective has a retail area, designer studios and a production area for pattern making and sewing.

OPENING HOURS: Tue to Fri: 10am – 5:30pm; Sat & Sun: 9.30am – 3.30pm
