National Capital Authority

We thank the National Capital Authority for coming on board as a platinum partner for DESIGN Canberra 2018.

The National Capital Authority or NCA, is responsible for developing an understanding and appreciation of the role of Canberra as the National Capital. The NCA takes a strategic approach to fostering an awareness of the Capital through research, by encouraging participation, appreciation and celebration in the National Capital, by providing information and education about the Capital, and by promoting the attributes of Canberra that are of national significance.

The Australian Government, through the NCA, has a direct interest in developing and maintaining the National Capital as an asset in which all Australians have a major investment. These assets include places like Lake Burley Griffin, the National Carillon, ANZAC Parade, Commonwealth Park and the Parliamentary Triangle, and represent some of the Capital’s most nationally and culturally significant landscapes and attractions.

DESIGN Canberra 2018 appreciates the National Capital Authority’s commitment to recognising and promoting local artists and makers. Canberra has a rich design legacy and a thriving design community and the National Capital Authority has been instrumental in helping us share that through DESIGN Canberra 2018.

Bowen Place Crossing in Canberra optimises its key location alongside Lake Burley Griffin and integrates design, with improved safety and connectivity for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists. The design by landscape architects Spackman Mossop Michaels, in conjunction with Lahz Nimmo Architects enhances the site’s existing geometries and landscape to create an architectural centrepiece that is minimal, sculptural, refined and elegant. This project further demonstrates the NCA’s commitment to design excellence.
