Meet the Designers: Bonnie Montgomery of Bonty

Tuesday, 3 November 2023

As part of DESIGN Canberra’s ACTivate, Bonty will be holding a pop up shop throughout the festival displaying and selling curated works from independent jewellery designers from around Australia. Make sure you stop by and check out the wearable art that will be on display.

DESIGN Canberra caught up with Bonty founder, Bonnie Montgomery, to chat about the upcoming event.

Q: What three words describe your style?

A: Relaxed, simple and unique.

Q: What do you enjoy most about your job?

A: I love connecting with designers and their product and then with our fabulous Bonty customers. I have met some of the most creative and inspiring people through starting this small business.

Q: Favourite place in Canberra?

A: Yarramundi Reach by the lake – it is quiet with beautiful views and trails.

Q: What first interested you in working in your medium?

A: I would often only find unique jewellery after spending hours searching online or trawling through boutique stores in major cities. I thought I might try to create a curated space featuring quality, contemporary pieces.

Q: What’s your day-to-day like? What projects are you currently developing?

A: I start each morning filling online orders and then go to my day job. At night I upload new stock, respond to customer and designer enquiries and search for new products to bring to Bonty customers.

Q: What do you have planned for DESIGN Canberra?

A: This is the first time that Bonty is in a retail space, so I am excited about designing displays and bringing new designers to Canberra.

Make sure you come by the pop-up, check out the wares, and say hello. Head over to Bonty’s DESIGN Canberra event page for more information.
