DESIGN Canberra is excited to announce it’s hotel partner, the Multi award-winning Fender Katsalidis’ newest Canberra venue, Midnight Hotel, Autograph Collection, will host the 2019 EAT DRINK DESIGN Canberra dinner.
This is a dining event like no other – curated for, by and about lovers of design and food. Enjoy a movable feast of the freshest local produce, fine wines, and excellent company among the team of designers, artists, producers and makers who have helped to create the new architectural and moody Midnight Hotel in the heart of Canberra’s Braddon district.
Arrive to signature cocktails in the central atrium and discover the secrets of the Midnight design with pioneering architect David Sutherland. Move to the new Braddon Merchant eatery for Moonlight Flat oysters and shared Merchant Experience – seasonal food hosted by chef Andrew Morrow. Complete a perfect evening in Midnight Bar’s dark and moody atmosphere for the final course of food and drink to satisfy your senses.
The 2019 Eat, Drink, DESIGN Canberra dinner menu has been developed with several key mindsets.
The first is to use Artisan crafted products and ingredients that reflect natures design in an all-natural way. We will be working with Steve Feletti of Moonlight Flat oysters fame to showcase his moonlight kisses alongside his newest vintage of Picpoul Blanc. We will also be working with Eugowra game birds, growers of full free range, antibiotic free and dry processed game birds. The Pines Dairy in Kiama produce small batch, artisan cheeses and gelatos, which we’ll showcase, and our various fisherman on the south coast will provide fresh fish, hours from just being caught.
Our second mindset was seasonality, allowing the change of season to dictate what we can use and how best it will present. New season artichokes, carrots and Lovage will all be incorporated. First of the season strawberries, peas and sunflower shoots will bring a vivacious freshness to the menu.
The final mindset was design itself, allowing the natural curves, edges and shapes of nature to direct our presentation. Maintaining the integrity of the vegetables and products where relevant and shape our flavours around the natural forms to create bespoke, beautiful plates of food.
The dinner will encompass 6 courses including canapes, freshly shucked oysters and several courses within our Braddon Merchant space before retiring to the Midnight Bar for a selection of artisan handmade cheese and sweet treats.”
Special highlights include a brief speech from David Sutherland, Director at Fender Katsalidis, on the design notes of the Midnight precinct; guest appearances from local industrial designer, René Linssen and Australian artist Thomas Bucich who will share their Midnight Hotel art and design collaboration stories.
