A Gathering Place of Community and Design

The Canberra Centre has been a prominent leader of design and at the forefront of innovation since 1963.

From their beginnings a “Monaro Mall” in the 60’s, Canberra Centre has set the benchmark for innovation and style. Declared open by Sir Robert Menzies in 1963, the Centre introduced a new concept to Australian retail as the first fully enclosed shopping mall.

Over the 50 years, there’s been several major renovations, including a $500 million redevelopment in 2007. In 2016 they have commenced a redevelopment in the old Monaro Mall precinct. Due for completion in 2017, this will bring more unique and specialty retailers to Canberra.

Canberra Centre is the shopping mecca we all love. Today, locals and visitors alike enjoy an inspiring culture of style and fun with over 260 national and international retailers.

During all of this growth and development, The Canberra Centre has maintained a strong support of the Canberra’s Community.

DESIGN Canberra has been supported by the Canberra Centre as a Platinum sponsor for multiple years. This partnership allows the festival to reach a large population of the community and activates the Centre with enriching design exhibitions.

Thank you for your continued support! It wouldn’t be possible without it.
