DESIGN CANBERRA ANNOUNCES DESIGNER LINEUP FOR OPENING PARTY AND AUCTION

DESIGN Canberra is giving design-lovers the chance to own their own piece of contemporary design at this year’s DESIGN Canberra auction, featuring a new line up of emerging and leading Canberra designers.

The design auction party will celebrate the best of contemporary design and will launch the festival with an opening-weekend party. Limited-edition and one-off pieces by established and emerging Canberra designers, artists and makers will be on display and highlighted by an experimental lighting design installation by Matt Adey of Beizj Studio.

The 2019 DESIGN Canberra opening party will celebrate the Bauhaus anniversary which redefined what design could do for society and reflected the utopian ideas of its time. The 2019 edition is the third auction party presented by DESIGN Canberra.

Artists invited to participate in this year’s DESIGN Canberra auction include emerging and leading Canberra designers, artists, makers and Craft ACT members. Anna Gianakis, Daniel Leone, DesignByThem, Estelle Briedis, Endure Designs, Gilbert Riedelbauch, Girl Nomad Ceramics, Kenny Son, Kristina Neumann, Krystal Hurst, Mel Douglas, Phoebe Porter, René Linssen, Rolf Barfoed, Dan Lorrimer, Tom Skeehan and Wayne Simon.

“The DESIGN Canberra festival is a city-wide celebration that transforms the nation’s capital into a hub of design each year. Craft ACT is honoured to deliver the festival in collaboration with industry, associations and educational institutions who share our commitment to the design, arts and creative industries.” said Rachael Coghlan

“The biggest event of the DESIGN Canberra festival is the festival opening party and auction. It’s back again in 2019 with a fantastic line up of designers and event partners. Best of all, everyone is invited!” said Rachael Coghlan.

For those of us who missed out on winning one of the beautiful objects at auction in previous years, the good news is there’s not too much longer to wait for your chance to win (and to support quality contemporary design). Works will be publicly exhibited soon, and the online auction goes live on 1 November.

“This is a unique opportunity for collectors from all over the world to own a piece designed and created by the most exciting established and up and coming Australian designers. “

See the works before they go to auction at the iconic Monaro Mall in the Canberra Centre from 17 October leading up to the auction party which will be hosted at the heritage-listed Fitters Workshop. This Fitters Workshop building was initially part of the Kingston Power House precinct. It was constructed in 1916 -1917 and was designed by John Smith Murdoch, the government architect who also designed Old Parliament House.
