This is an opportunity for all Canberrans to become inspired for a career in the design arts, as special invited guests provide a glimpse into their journey towards success in creative industries. Learn top tips and tricks from an industrial designer, silversmith, graphic designer, curator and architect among others. An information hub of universities including Australian National University, University of Canberra, Charles Sturt, The Academy of Interactive Entertainment and Whitehouse Institute of Design will provide a chance to discuss relevant courses and pathways.

Feature Presenters

Alison Jackson Silversmith Graduating in 2008 from ANU School of Art, Gold & Silversmithing Workshop, Alison immediately established her own workshop space, Pocket Studio. She now runs her own full time practice pairing fine hand-making skills with industrial processes.

Rob Clode Graphic Designer, CRE8IVE During his 20 year career, Robert has helped some of the world’s leading companies tell their stories. His focus is on gaining a deeper understanding of a clients’ business or organisation, defining competitive advantage, and creating ideas to connect people with their brands.

Ben Landau Artist/designer Ben uses design research to analyse systems, and artistic methodologies to tamper with them. He constructs experiences, objects and performances which are interactive or invite the audience to participate.

Erin Hinton Architect and Assistant Professor, University of Canberra Erin Hinton is an architect and Assistant Professor of Architecture and Interior Architecture at the University of Canberra. Her creative research practice – HINTON Architects – operates across architecture, design and theoretical work to produce innovative and progressive project outcomes.

Pete & Thea Bollington Husband and wife team Pete and Thea Bollington are the creative minds behind furniture and design studio, Curious Tales and design store, Meet Gather Collect. They seek to reinterpret everyday objects into new and engaging designs.

Kelli Cole Curator, National Gallery of Australia Kelli Cole is a Warumunga and Luritja woman from central Australia. Kelli is Assistant Curator of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art at the National Gallery of Australia. She has worked on major projects at the Gallery since 2007, including the National Indigenous Art Triennial in 2007, 2012 and 2017, the development of the Gallery’s eleven Indigenous art galleries in 2010 and the delivery of seven Wesfarmers Arts Indigenous Arts Leadership programs. She has also written on various aspects of Indigenous art for Gallery publications, including the magazine Artonview, and for the 2014 special Indigenous issue of Artlink.

Rene Linssen Industrial designer René Linssen is a South African born, Australian Industrial Designer living and working in Canberra, Australia. Currently an Industrial Designer at Australian product design company Formswell Design, he is involved in a diverse range of design work in industries from sports, outdoors, homewares, government and more.

Zoe Brand Contemporary jeweler Zoe Brand constructs a narrative around how we consume and understand signs. Using familiar language and forms often found in retail environments she questions the conventions of commerce and of the ubiquitous and ambiguous language that surrounds it. The work includes serial production of badges, pendants and rings as well as one off advertising boards.

Cox Humphries Moss designed the award-winning Radford College senior school building which includes a sculptural work by Robert Foster. The large open spherical work, Blue Mantle 2013, is informed by the earth’s mantle/continents suspended in the interior space and can be looked through to the outside to highlight the ‘real’ world that surrounds us and reminds us of the fragile and miraculous nature of our world and lives.
